As you clicked on to Google today, you will have noticed a shining starlet as the Google Doodle, celebrating the life of Egyptian-born Italian-French singer, Dalida.

The Google Doodle switches between 14 of her most iconic looks, on what would have been her 86th birthday.

"Today’s Doodle celebrates Dalida, a French singer and actress, whose aching voice and real-life heartaches earned her a cult following worldwide," Google wrote of the singer.

"Her breakthrough single Bambino, tells the tale of a heartbroken boy who plays beautiful music on his mandolin The song became a hit in France, spending most of 1956 at the top of the charts. It also kicked off the artist’s 30-year singing career during which she would sell millions of records," Google adds.

Dalida was born Yolanda Cristina Gigliotti on January 17, 1933, and grew up in the suburbs of Cairo, Egypt. She was crowned Miss Egypt in 1954, before moving to Paris later that year, to pursue a career on screen.

However her life was "troubled" and ended in tragedy, culminating in her suicide on May 3, 1987.

In 2016 Dalida was released, a movie tribute to the much-loved singer.
