As it turns out, Mick Jagger is just like the rest of us.
Dropping a surprise collaboration with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, new single Easy Sleazy muses upon boredom throughout the pandemic, touching on a number of topics including learning TikTok dances and running out of clean clothes, as well as tackling conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxers.
"Shooting the vaccine / Bill Gates is in my bloodstream / It's mind control / The earth is flat and cold / It's never warming up / The Arctic's turned to slush / The second coming's late / And there's aliens in the deep state," sings Jagger.
In the song, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones also pokes fun at the endless amount of Zoom calls endured during the pandemic and hours spent watching too much television.
"Trying to write a tune you better hook me up to Zoom / See my pouncy books teach myself to cook / Way too much TV, its lobotomising me, yeah," he muses.
However, the second half of the song is more optimistic with lyrics such as: "We're all headed back to paradise / Yeah easy. Believe me / It'll be a memory you're trying to remember to forget" – timed well alongside the reopening of pub gardens in the UK this week.
“It’s a song that I wrote about coming out of lockdown, with some much-needed optimism,” Jagger said in a statement Tuesday. “Thanks to Dave Grohl for jumping on drums, bass and guitar. It was a lot of fun working with him.”
The duo reportedly recorded the song in different studio locations.
Last year, The Rolling Stones surprised fans by releasing Living in a Ghost Town, a rock song that mourned bustling life pre-pandemic. It was the first single to be released by the band since 2012.
