Rapper Pitbull has revealed in a heartfelt video that he is no longer able to perform at the Dubai opening ceremony for the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The Timber rapper was scheduled to appear at the opening ceremony on Thursday, February 14, but has had to cancel his performance following a technical error with his plane.

"I wanna start off by saying I was very, very excited to be able to go to Dubai and perform for the HBL Pakistan Super League cricket tournament," he said at the beginning of the video message, posted on his Twitter account. However, he went on to explain: "But, unfortunately, what has happened was … it was such a long flight … they took the plane for a test flight, and when they landed, pieces of the engine had come apart."

He then "deeply apologised", adding that he hoped to see fans next year at the event.

Fans, however, weren't convinced by the rapper's excuses.

"You should have been there a day or two before for the rehearsal," one replied on Twitter. Another added, "You've got to be kidding me!"

A more understanding fan wrote: "[We] were really looking forward to see you performing, disappointing news but it wasn’t something in your control so it’s OK. Hope to see you next year or so (sic)".

Pakistani musicians Junoon and disco band Boney M will still be performing at the opening ceremony, due to take place from 8pm at Dubai International Stadium.

The opening ceremony performances will be followed by a match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars at 10.45pm.
