ABU DHABI // DJ Dave Guetta is set to return to Abu Dhabi. Announced as the latest instalment of the Yas Island Show Weekends, the French spin-king will be behind the deck at Yas Island, where he is set to play to thousands of fans at Yas Arena on Friday, March 2.

The announcement follows the zany performance by New York popsters The Scissor Sisters at Flash Forum last Thursday.Guetta will hit the stage at midnight for a two hour set that will see him play tracks from his latest album, Nothing But The Beat, which topped global club charts on the back of its stellar guest artists, including Usher, Nicki Minaj and Taio Cruz.

Guetta’s performance also comes after the announcement of a recent competition by radio station 104.8 Channel 4 FM, who are inviting listeners to be part of the one-off screening of the artist’s documentary, also titled Nothing But The Beat, screening at Ibn Battuta Mall’s Grand Cinemas on January 25.

While Guetta came to prominence with the 2009 album One Love, featuring the hit collaboration with RnB artist Kelly Rowland When Love Takes Over, the Frenchman has been plying his trade for more than two decades as underground house DJ in Paris, where he managed Le Palace nightclub as well as being a sought after event organiser and promoter.

His first breakthrough arrived in 2001 with the single Just a Little More featuring long-term vocal collaborator Chris Willis.

While selling moderately, Just a Little More began Guetta’s trajectory of infusing pop elements into dance, a blend which he mastered with One Love.Currently one of the most sought after producers in the pop world, Guetta lent his skills to the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg and Akon and helped usher in hip-hop’s latest flirtation with dance music. While some hard-core dance aficionados have labelled his pop-heavy sound as a betrayal of his former house roots, Guetta’s place in pop-music history looks increasing assured.

Dave Guetta plays at Yas Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on Friday, March 2. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets start at Dh195 from www.thinkflash.ae
