Chris Brown has filed a defamation lawsuit in Paris, France, against the woman who accused him of aggravated rape.

The singer was arrested in Paris last week and taken in for questioning by French police, before being released without charge over an attack that his accuser claimed took place in the city’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel and involved Brown, his bodyguard and a third friend.

Brown’s Paris-based lawyer Raphael Chince said following the arrest: "No lawsuits were filed against him. He vigorously challenges the charges against him. A complaint for slanderous denunciation will be filed with the Public Prosecutor of Pairs. The charges against Chris Brown have not been dropped and investigations are still going on but Chris Brown has not been sued by Prosecution."

People Magazine now reports that Brown filed documents on Thursday with the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office accusing the woman of false accusation. Brown took to Instagram following his release to label the accusations “disrespectful” in a since-deleted post.

This is not the first time Brown has been arrested. His most recent brush with the law came in July when he was picked up over an outstanding warrant for felony battery. He was released on a $2,000 bond.

The singer was also arrested in 2016 at his Los Angeles home for assault with a deadly weapon. In 2013, he was charged with misdemeanor assault in Washington, D.C. Most infamously, Brown faced a felony conviction in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. That case saw Brown sentenced to six months of community service, five years’ probation and a year of domestic violence counselling.
