The world-renowned Bayreuth Festival is bringing Richard Wagner's The Valkyrie to Abu Dhabi. Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the performance will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 and Friday, February, 1, 2019 at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi.

The concert will be directed by Katharina Wagner, who is Wagner’s great-granddaughter. It is notoriously hard to get tickets to Bayreuth Festival productions – there is an annual demand of over 500,000 and there are only 60,000 tickets available. The Bayreuth performances of Wagner’s operas, are usually performed in a special theatre, the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, designed by Wagner himself.

Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, said “We have been working with Katharina Wagner for many years to bring this project to fruition and it is truly unique. The Bayreuth Festival is coming to Abu Dhabi with a production reflecting its outstanding artistic quality and innovative vision which at the same time proves that Abu Dhabi is a platform for world-class cultural offerings.”

Tickets are on sale now through www.ticketmaster.ae and all Virgin Megastores across the UAE.
