A-ha in the UAE: second date added for Dubai Opera after first night sells out
Their tour is timed to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their smash hit 'Take On Me'
A-ha are Norway's biggest music export, and they dominated the pop charts in the '80s and continue to tour today.
In the summer, it was announced that the tour included a date in the UAE, February 11, 2020. That night quickly sold out, and so the band have decided to also put on a show on Monday, February 10.
The trio – singer Morten Harket, keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and guitarist Pal Waaktaar-Savoy – will play at Dubai Opera in Downtown Dubai.
The band will play their 1985 debut album Hunting High And Low in its entirety at the gig, and in the running order of the original release.
NME recently lauded Hunting High And Low as “one of the albums that have stood the test of time and still sounds great today”, and Coldplay's Chris Martin has often described the band's music as one of his greatest inspirations. Another artist who often cites the band as having a big influence on his music is American rapper and hitmaker Pitbull.
The Dubai Opera show will be one of the most intimate gigs on their world tour, and it's safe to say the frenetic beat and soaring vocals of this song will get people moving:
Tickets start from Dh250, and can be purchased at dubaiopera.com or at Virgin Megastores. There will be an early bird discount of 20 per cent until July 16.
Here is another one of the top singles from the Hunting High and Low album, The Sun Always Shines on TV. This live version was performed on MTV Unplugged and showcases Harket's phenomenal vocal range:
While A-ha will play all 10 songs from their debut album, they will also rouse the crowd with some of their other hits. A more mellow moment might come from 2001's moodier, less upbeat Lifelines:
