Khatija Rahman, the eldest daughter of Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman, is a married woman. Father and daughter made the announcement on Thursday, sharing pictures from the nuptials in Chennai, India, on their Instagram account.

"The most awaited day in my life. Married to my man @riyasdeenriyan," Khatija posted. Her husband, Riyasdeen Riyan, is a sound engineer who tours with her father.

Rahman also shared a photo from the ceremony on Thursday.

"May the Almighty bless the couple ... thanking you in advance for your good wishes and love," he posted, along with a photo of the couple as well as his wife, Saira Banu, and their two other children — daughter Raheema and son Ameen.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal was one of the first to congratulate the newly weds.

"Hearty congratulations Khatija Rahman and Riyasdeen. God bless the beautiful couple," she commented on Rahman's post.

Bollywood film producer Boney Kapoor said: "Congratulations Mr and Mrs AR Rahman. Wishing the couple a very happy and blissful life."

A gifted singer, Khatija, 25, wowed audiences at Expo 2020 Dubai in November when she joined her father's all-women Firdaus Orchestra for a performance on World Children's Day. She performed her song Farishton, a song composed by her father.

When she first performed the track in 2020, Khatija said Farishton was a personal song, a "longing to explore the unknown".

"I was born in Chennai in a multicultural family with different genres of music and with friends from diverse backgrounds. I’ve always been fascinated with the wonders of life," she said.

Khatija's brother, Ameen, is also a singer and performer, and shared the stage with their father at a separate concert at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Khatija announced her engagement to Riyan on her birthday in December, calling him "an aspiring entrepreneur and a wizkid audio engineer".

"With the blessings of the Almighty I’m happy to announce to you all my engagement with Riyasdeen. The engagement happened on 29th December, my birthday, in the presence of close family and loved ones," she said at the time.

Days before the wedding, Rahman announced details of Khatija's first album, Kuhu Kuhu, which is also set to feature the Firdaus Orchestra.
