Mobile growth makes urban relics of payphones

Phone booths are disappearing from Abu Dhabi's streets. Delores Johnson documents the remaining few devices with one of their most popular replacements: an iPhone.

When is the last time you made a call in a telephone booth?

They’re all over Abu Dhabi but, with the advent of mobile phones, these coin- and  card-operated relics are slowly disappearing.

In a slight sardonic twist, The National’s Delores Johnson went out to capture some booths with the device that is helping to make them obsolete: her iPhone.
