Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert were the big winners at Sunday's 48th Academy of Country Music awards. Bryan was overcome with emotion as Shania Twain presented him with the fan-voted Entertainer of the Year award. "This is the defining moment of my life and I will never take it for granted," he said. Lambert, meanwhile, made three increasingly emotional trips to the stage – twice for Song of the Year and Best Single for Over You, and a third time for Female Vocalist of the Year. Other winners include Jason Aldean for Male Vocalist of the Year and Eric Church for Album of the Year (Chief). Going home empty-handed was Taylor Swift, who was nominated for five categories. Fashion designer Lily Pulitzer dies
The fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer died on Sunday in Florida at the age of 81. Pulitzer was known for her cheerful, printed shift dresses. She also designed children's wear, menswear and homeware. "Lilly was a true original who has brought together generations through her bright and happy mark on the world," said a statement from her company. The cause of death was not disclosed. – Reuters
Lloyd Webber bringing School of Rock to stage
If you watched the 2003 comedy School of Rock starring Jack Black, and thought "someone really should turn this into a stage show", you're in luck. Andrew Lloyd Webber has acquired rights to the film and is in the preliminary stages of transforming it into a musical. "So I will go from Stephen Ward, which is really going to be sort of a chamber musical, to a musical about kids playing the guitar," he said in an interview on CBC radio, adding that he might even add some of his own songs to the show. – The National staff
Duke Dumont and A*M*E top UK chart
The British DJ Duke Dumont and the singer A*M*E raced to the top of the UK charts this week with their catchy single Need U (100%), while Justin Timberlake remained at the top of the album chart. After making a name remixing singles for Lily Allen and Mystery Jets, Dumont teamed up with the 18-year-old Aminata "Amy" Kabba – stage name A*M*E – to record the 1990s-infused dance track. The single helped to knock the comedy duo Ant and Dec's reissue of the 1994 hit Let's Get Ready to Rhumble down from first to sixth spot. Michael Buble provided the top 10's only other new entry with It's a Beautiful Day at No 10. – Reuters
Sherlock enters Del Toro’s haunted house
Following the success of the BBC's Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch's star continues to rise. Having played a villain in the forthcoming Star Trek: Into Darkness and Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, currently filming, he's now set to join Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam in Guillermo del Toro's haunted house thriller Crimson Peak. Plot details are thin on the ground but the story will reportedly centre on a woman who discovers that her husband might not be whom he appears to be. – The National staff
