Million’s Poet is returning for its sixth edition.

The Cultural Programs and Heritage Festival Committee have announced that the new season of the popular Arabic-language reality TV show has begun accepting applications.

Preparations will commence after Eid Al Adha, according to organisers, with the show’s judges set to tour the region in search of the most talented poet in Arabic poetry.

Sultan Al Amimi, the director of the Poetry Academy of the Abu Dhabi Authority of Culture and Heritage, emphasised that admission is based on the strict aesthetic and technical standards of Nabati poetry.

The contest is open to participants aged 18 and up. Applicants should submit a Nabati poem that contains at least 10, but not more than, 20 verses.

Al Amimi reminded participants that only poems properly typed and printed will be accepted; handwritten entries will not be considered.

Prizes for the top five winners will total Dh15 million.

Last year, the Emirati poet Rashid Ahmed Al Rumaithi won the fifth edition of Million’s Poet. He was the first Emirati to obtain the title since the show was launched in 2006.
