Michelle Obama is making a cameo appearance in a video for a hip-hop song recorded to encourage kids from minority groups to take care of their bodies. The song, Everybody, is one of 19 tracks on the album Songs for a Healthier America, scheduled for release next month. In the video, Mrs Obama talks briefly about launching Let’s Move and people’s doubts about whether it will make a difference. Oprah sorry for Switzerland incident

Oprah Winfrey says she is “sorry” about the media frenzy that emerged after she claimed to have experienced racism during a trip to Switzerland. “I’m really sorry that it got blown up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I’m sorry that I said it was Switzerland,” Winfrey told reporters. In a recent TV interview, Winfrey said a clerk at an upscale Zurich boutique refused to show her a handbag. Winfrey said she was told she could not afford the US$38,000 (Dh140,000) purse. Swiss tourism officials and the boutique owner apologised for the incident last week, but Winfrey insists there’s no need. “It’s not an indictment against the country or even that store,” she said. “It was just one person who didn’t want to offer me the opportunity to see the bag.” – AP

Sholay 3-D to release on Big B’s birthday

A 3-D version of the 1975 Hindi film Sholay is scheduled for release on October 11, which happens to be the 71st birthday of Amitabh Bachchan, who co-starred in the blockbuster with Dharmendra, who was a superstar at the time, and stole the show. “The date was chosen to coincide with Bachchan’s big day. He is our biggest star and what better day to release the film?” a production source told IBNLive. Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay also features Hema Malini as Dharmendra’s love interest and Amjad Khan as the baddie Gabbar Singh. – The National staff

Kiri Te Kanawa brings opera to Downton

Downton Abbey is getting a dose of opera. Producers say the soprano Kiri Te Kanawa will appear in the forthcoming fourth season as the real-life diva Nellie Melba. The New Zealand-born singer says she “couldn’t say yes fast enough” to appearing on a show she loves – and enjoyed her time on set so much she named her new dog Abbey. In the new series, Melba – a huge star of the early 20th century – joins the aristocratic Grantham clan for a house party. Chris Brown sued over altercation

A man who claims he was punched and kicked by a member of Chris Brown’s entourage during a fight at a recording studio has sued the R&B singer for assault and battery. Sha’keir Duarte sued Brown for unspecified damages in the Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming he suffered a concussion as well as humiliation and mental anguish as a result of the attack. Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos called the case frivolous and said it amounted to an attempted shakedown. The fight at Westlake Recording Studios erupted on January 27 between the entourages of Brown and fellow singer Frank Ocean. The fight started after Brown went and parked his car in Ocean’s spot at the studio. – AP
