Mammootty at Qatar Pearl Awards show

The chance to see some of their screen idols had crowds of Indians teeming outside the inaugural Pearl Awards in Doha on Friday. The event – which was organised by Matrix Media and the Kerala Film Producers Association – was held at the newly built West End Park to mark 100 years of Indian cinema and 85 years of Malayalam cinema. About 50 stars from the Indian film industry attended, including the veteran actor Mammootty, the singer K?J Yesudas, the music director Dakshinamoorthy, the lyricist O?N?V Kurup and the Bollywood director Priyadarshan. Kerala’s state minister M?K Muneer and the former minister and actor K?B Ganesh Kumar were also present. – IANS

Bollywood stars perform in Bahrain

The Bollywood singer Benny Dayal and the playback singer Swetha Menon were the star attractions at a musical extravaganza in Bahrain at the weekend. Batelco Mega Fair 2013 took place at the St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church at the Indian School in Manama, the Bahraini capital. The actors Ramesh Pisharadi, Sajan Palluruthy, Saju Kodiyan, Pramod Mala and Devi Chandana also appeared on stage. Dayal has sung in numerous Tamil and Hindi films, including Lat Lag Gayi in Race 2, the Abbas-Mustan film starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, and Badtameez Dil in Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Padukone, which is scheduled to release at the end of this month. The fair was held under the patronage of Bahrain’s social development ministry for its social rehabilitation directorate. According to the Bahraini newspaper Gulf Daily News, the church’s vicar Father Jacob Koshy said 15,000 people attended the event. – IANS

Rajasthan Fashion Week ready for its second edition in Jaipur

Rajasthan Fashion Week (RFW) returns for its second edition on Thursday in Jaipur. Twenty-six designers, including Ritu Kumar, Neeta Lulla and Lina Tipnis, will showcase their ready-to-wear ethnic and western wear at the event. The four-day event will begin with a grand opening show followed by a welcome party. Shalika Sharma, RFW’s director, said: “The second edition will witness a different scale of creative canvas.” The model and actress Mugdha Godse, who is participating in the fashion extravaganza, said: “It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of Rajasthan Fashion Week. I wish the team all the very best for the shows.” – IANS
