Kardashian wants to be more private

Kim Kardashian says it was nice to be out of the media spotlight during the early stages of her pregnancy, before her boyfriend Kanye West revealed it at a December 30 concert. "If anything, I loved the privacy," she said. "You live your life on a reality show but then, when you grow up, certain things change your life that make you want to be more private." West rarely grants interviews and Kardashian says it has influenced her: "When you spend time with someone, you learn things from them." - AP

Shakira hosts virtual baby shower

The expectant parents Shakira and the football star Gerard Piqué of FC Barcelona are inviting everyone to join an online baby shower to benefit underprivileged children. Their own child is expected to be born this year. A Unicef-hosted site invites those attending the virtual shower to buy gifts costing as little as US$5 (Dh18) for mosquito nets and polio vaccines. "To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children can have their basic needs covered," reads a message from the 35-year-old Colombian superstar and the 25-year-old Piqué. The site also features never-seen photos of the couple. - AP

Monaco royals miffed over Grace film

Monaco's royal family has criticised a film about Princess Grace, saying it presents a glamorised and inaccurate view of her life. Prince Albert and his sisters, Princess Stephanie and Princess Caroline, issued a statement saying the film about their mother - the former Grace Kelly - contained historical inaccuracies and "purely fictional scenes". The movie stars Nicole Kidman as the Hollywood icon. The family said they had "absolutely no association" with the film. It said the filmmakers had ignored the palace's requests for changes to the script. - AP

Redford: diversity reigns at Sundance

For the first time, half of the films featured at the Sundance Film festival were made by women. The festival founder Robert Redford opened the event on Thursday and said "diversity is the point" of the 11-day independent film showcase in Park City, Utah, further evidenced by contributions from 32 countries and 51 first-time filmmakers this year. "We show what's there and what comes up will usually give you an indication of changing times," Redford said. - AP
