Paris, the daughter of the late pop icon Michael Jackson, has landed her first film, with a role in Lundon's Bridge and the Three Keys, based on Dennis Christen's fantasy novel. The 14-year-old told Glamour magazine: "A lot of people think my dad is the only reason I'm making it, but I want to show that I can make it if I try. I love my dad; I just don't think the title 'MJ's daughter' fits me. A lot of people don't want me to be an actress, but Aunt La Toya believes in me." Filming will begin in January. * IANS

Watson debuts new movie at Toronto film festival

For her first major film role since the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson chose The Perks of Being a Wallflower, in which she plays an American teenage student. The 22-year-old said the film gave her a taste of a different life, after her cloistered experiences on the sets of the Harry Potter franchise, in which she was cast at the age of 9. "It felt pretty exotic to me. It was a very voyeuristic experience. Getting to go to Friday night football and school dances - that really was another world," Watson said at the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. She said growing up as a celebrity has left her feeling like a child when it comes to many things: "There are some parts of me that feel very old, and then there are other parts that have a sense of my own arrested development." Watson's next project is Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic, Noah. - AP

Duncan's life celebrated

Tom Hanks, Jay Leno, Loretta Devine and Stevie Wonder were among those who helped celebrate the life of Michael Clarke Duncan during a four-hour memorial service on Monday, marked by heartfelt speeches and gospel performances. Duncan died on September 3 at the age of 54, having never recovered from a heart attack in July. "Just to see such a pure heart and kindness, and to see it taken so early. There are no sadder words than what might have been," said Leno. Also present was Duncan's fiancée, the former reality star Omarosa Manigault. * AP
