Sampat Pal, the leader of the Gulabi Gang, a band of female vigilantes operating in Central India, has filed a case against the filmmaker Anubhav Sinha’s new drama Gulaab Gang, which is inspired by the self-styled social activists and stars the Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit-Nene in the lead role. The film is out in UAE cinemas today and across India tomorrow. According to The Indian Express, Pal’s argument is that the film’s producers do not have permission to make a film about her life. A senior executive with the film said: “It is surprising that Sampat has filed this case when in the past few months we have said hundreds of times that Gulaab Gang is not based on her story or that of Gulabi Gang. We will shortly make an official response.”
