One of the most innovative groups on the modern pop scene are set to head one of Dubai's most popular festivals. Gorillaz, the super-eclectic and visually rich outfit led by Damon Albarn (also the frontman for Blur), will headline the second edition of Fiesta De Los Muertos.

Scheduled for Dubai’s Autism Rocks Arena on October 27, the colourful music event is renowned for its variety of musical offerings.

Joining the Gorillaz on stage will be the Canadian Lebanese pop singer Massari and the much-loved Mexican group The Mariachis.

A second announcement featuring more headline acts is expected soon. Gorillaz will make their way back to the UAE following the release of their anticipated album Humanz. Gorillaz come to the UAE on the back of the recent much-anticipated album Humanz.

The new song collection, featuring the new single Sleeping Powder, continues the group’s knack for blending genres ranging from pop, indie-rock and hip-hop. Their set will be backed by the lush and almost three dimensional quality of visuals created by the group’s co-founder, the acclaimed comic book creator James Hewlett.

The new world tour, which kicked off in June in the UK, has already garnered some rave reviews from critics. “Gorillaz' live return proves they are the masters of music for uncertain time,” stated The Telegraph.

Massari should also attract his own fan-base courtesy of his energetic brand of pop. He arrives in Dubai with new single Done Da Da from his latest album Beirut.

Adding some Latin - and slightly comic - flare to the evening will be The Mariachis. The Mexican crew were the surprise packet of last year’s event and will return with a fistful of mariachi covers of pop and rock standards, complete with authentic outfits.

“We are thrilled to have the newest Dubai festival back in super form, hosting some of the biggest names in the music industry,” says Thomas Ovesen, chief executive of event promoters 117Live.

“We have shortlisted the artists targeting different age groups and genres of music so there is something for everyone. We will be announcing more top artists for this year’s Fiesta soon and I urge fans to get their tickets now and start thinking of what to wear for this spooky and wonderfully scary night in October.”

Tickets begin from Dh350 from www.117live.com
