Google pays tribute to TV show 'Friends' with a series of funny Easter eggs

From Ross's plea to 'pivot' to Phoebe's 'Smelly Cat', the search engine gives fans a fun way to mark the show's 25th anniversary

September 22 marks the 25th anniversary since Friends first aired on television. It made its six young stars some of the biggest names in entertainment history and, despite ending in 2004, continues to be one of the most successful shows in television history.

As the stars and millions of fans around the world mark the milestone, the celebrations are in full swing.

Studio bosses have recreated the famous Central Perk cafe in the form of a pop-up shop in New York City; the famed orange couch is currently making its way around the world for fans to hop on - including a stopover in Dubai; and brands, such as Lego, have created special-edition sets.

Now Google is doing its bit to hop on the trend, too. Did Ross have you in hysterics when he tried to “pivot! pivot” the sofa up the narrow stairwell with Chandler and Rachel? Did the show make you a little obsessive about cleaning like Monica? Or were you a fan of the hit single Smelly Cat? Here’s how to check out what Google has done to bring these and other memorable moments from our favourite friends to life:

  1. Go to Google search
  2. Type in “Friends Ross”. You can do the same for the other characters, too
  3. Click the little interactive icons that appear on the right. For Ross, click it four times.
Typing in the search term "friends ross" brings up one of the show's many hilarious moments.

While five of the six "Easter eggs" are cause for both hilarity and nostalgia, we wish Jennifer Anniston's was a bit more creative. Of course, "The Rachel" saw hairdressers around the world being inundated with requests to emulate the style, despite the star not loving it herself.

Love it or hate it, the style, the show and the quirks made Anniston - and her friends - world-famous.
