A new UAE-produced documentary is set to be given a free public screening at Dubai’s newest arts venue, Creekside, on Wednesday 18th June.

Dubai resident Sonia Filinto's Shifting Sands is a 30-minute film about a fishing community in her native Goa. The film gives a voice to community members — how they perceive themselves, their trade and the constantly changing life around them.

The film was co-produced by Dubai production house and agency Shaista Baig Productions, who also handled much of the post-production, alongside fellow Dubai production houses Optix and Mango Jam.

Shifting Sands also screened in the Short Film Corner at Cannes last month, where Filinto says audiences were impressed: "The feedback from Cannes was positive," she says. "The Short Film Corner is the non-competitive section of the festival and it was very exciting to have my film be part of the sheer talent that is on display at Cannes!"

The screening is free to the public and takes place at 7.30pm at Dubai Creekside, followed by a discussion session. Check the trailer here.
