The half-hour programme, titled The Uma Show, is based in the UAE and is presented and produced by the television host Uma Ghosh Deshpande. It showcases the latest fashion and trends sweeping the Arabian Gulf, with interviews and interactive segments.

As it turns out, “Uma” is not only Deshpande’s name but also the first letters of the words “ultimate”, “modern” and “aspirational”. “This is what defines the show,” says Deshpande. “[UMA] is everything that we aim for in life.”

The Uma Show will be a platform for the voices and opinions of regular people who live in the UAE. Segments include lifestyle, fashion, events, Bollywood, Let’s Talk and Ultimate Like, which features “people of all nationalities who have done something out of the box and are living their dreams”, says Deshpande.

The Let’s Talk segment addresses issues “that we all encounter here”, and looks at the unique lifestyle challenges that South Asian expats often face.

“I think we all have a good life in the UAE but it’s very important to talk about things that are important to people living here,” she said. A panel of experts will also be invited to share their insights on the concerns voiced on the show.

Deshpande says she chose to do the show to connect with the public. “I’m having a ball. With every episode, there’s a new learning process for me.”

The Uma Show is broadcast on Saturdays at 7pm on Colours and Wednesdays at 7pm on MTV India
