From pizza delivery to a corpsing Jessica Biel via Kim Novak's dazed delivery - we select this year's best water-cooler moments.
Five strange, wonderful Oscar moments
Ellen DeGeneres’s running joke about serving takeaway pizza from real delivery guys to all the famous people in the front row. Jared Leto, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Martin Scorsese and Kerry Washington all took slices on styrofoam plates. Ellen, on paying the delivery guys: “I don’t have any money – does anyone have any money?” Later, she passed Pharrell’s giant Vivienne Westwood-designed hat around. Brad Pitt threw a lot of money in it. Meryl Streep didn’t have to pay.
The excruciating time the Vertigo star Kim Novak was on stage. The awkward actress caused lots of cringing with her strange, dazed delivery, made worse as she stared off into the top right corner of the room. Her co-presenter Matthew McConaughey deserves his Best Actor win, and not just for Dallas Buyers Club.
Instant “I sing because I am happy” meme. Darlene Love, one of the central figures in the Best Documentary winner 20 Feet From Stardom, belted it out for just a little too long from the podium. It may have felt painful to watch at home, but the crowd in Hollywood gave her a standing ovation, led by the actor Bill Murray.
Bill Murray turning to the camera while presenting the list of nominees for Best Cinematography (won by Gravity). “Oh, and we forgot one: Harold Ramis for Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.” Murray and Ramis, the American comedy giant who died last week at 69, were longtime friends and collaborators who fell out years ago.
Jamie Foxx performing the theme to Chariots of Fire while his co-presenter Jessica Biel laughed and struggled to get through her lines.
