Watch: the Burj Khalifa in Dubai lights up for Godzilla (and other Titans)

The world's tallest building lit up with moving images of Godzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan

Last night the world’s biggest monsters converged on the world’s tallest building in anticipation of the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Dubai’s stunning 160-story Burj Khalifa lit up with moving images of the awe-inspiring Titans from the film - Godzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan.

The one-time event marked the first time Godzilla had been presented on such a massive scale, actually dwarfing his purported size of 393 feet tall. Spectacular effects and an awesome visual spectacle accompanied the show, underscored by film’s score and Godzilla’s mighty roar.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is directed and co-written by X2 and Superman Returns scriptwriter Michael Dougherty. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Godzilla, and is also the 35th film in the international Godzilla franchise. It is the third film in Legendary's MonsterVerse, and the third Godzilla film to be completely produced by a Hollywood studio as opposed to the giant lizard's Japanese home studio Toho.

The film stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown. The film is dedicated to executive producer Yoshimutsu Banno and original Godzilla suit performer Haruo Nakajima, who both died in 2017.

In the film, humans must rely on Godzilla to defeat King Ghidorah and other Titans, including my own personal favourite Mothra, the terrifying giant moth. These Titans have awoken and are intent on causing destruction all around the world, which means we can look forward to plenty of CGI destruction over the course of the movie.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is in cinemas across the UAE this weekend
