Watch: Ryan Reynolds' 6 Underground films explosive car chase in Abu Dhabi
The video, obtained by The National, appears to show a high-speed car chase taking place, in which a Mini is pursued by three police cars. The police cars screech to a halt at the conclusion of the clip after passing three major explosions on the side of the street.
6 Underground, a Netflix thriller from the makers of the Deadpool franchise, is directed by Michael Bay and, alongside Reynolds, stars Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, Corey Hawkins, Adria Arjona, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Ben Hardy, Payman Maadi and Lior Raz.
“The film is a fun, edgy thriller set against the picturesque backdrop of Italy and the spectacular vistas and natural wonders found throughout the United Arab Emirates,” said Netflix.
“From modern, state-of-the-art architecture to some of the oldest neighbourhoods, the film will capture the beauty of the country’s pristine beaches, tranquil desert landscapes and venerable historic sites, with scenes shot in Abu Dhabi, Liwa, Al Hamra, Sharjah and Al Ain.”
Earlier this week, Reynolds spoke about the experience of filming in the UAE capital. “Shooting in Abu Dhabi is going to be one of the highlights of this production, although you’ll have to wait until the movie hits Netflix to find out why," he said. "We’ve only been here a few days so far, but the welcome from everyone has been amazing and I can’t wait to explore Abu Dhabi more.”
Bay, who's known for The Rock and the Transformers franchise, added: “Abu Dhabi is a unique place to make a movie, with a lot of great looks. It’s got the diversity and architecture I need in front of the camera – plus the professional facilities, crew and infrastructure to back it up. I’m very excited to be shooting here over the next few weeks.”
