When you think Hollywood star, you probably imagine a life of swanky gyms, personal trainers, private chefs and fully stocked fridges.

You don't, most likely, envision them crouched over a can of tuna, shovelling the contents directly into their mouth.

But that, however, is Robert Pattinson's reality.

The British actor, who shot to fame playing Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter film franchise, has opened up about life in London amid the coronavirus pandemic, revealing some rather unusual eating habits in the process.

In a new interview for GQ, for which he also shot a series of self-portraits, the 34-year-old said he had been spent the day before Googling how to "microwave pasta".

"It really, really isn’t a thing. It’s really actually quite revolting. But I mean, who would have thought that it actually makes it taste disgusting?" said Pattinson.

The actor, who is set to take on the role of DC superhero Batman in a new film, added that he is currently on a meal plan for filming, but typically eats a curious array of meals.

"I’ll have oatmeal with, like, vanilla protein powder on it. And I will barely even mix it up. It’s extraordinarily easy," he said. "Like, I eat out of cans and stuff. I’ll literally put Tabasco inside a tuna can and just eat it out of the can. It is weird, but my preferences are…just sort of eat like a wild animal. Like, out of a trash can."

Pattinson is currently living in London, in an Airbnb procured by The Batman producers, as he had been filming the crime thriller before lockdown measures were introduced in the British capital.

The actor also opened up about male body image issues in Hollywood, revealing he had refused to take up an intense exercise regime for the role.

"Literally, I'm just barely doing anything," he told GQ, adding that the film studio hired a trainer whose pleas he has been ignoring. "I think if you're working out all the time, you're part of the problem. You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the '70s. Even James Dean — he wasn't exactly ripped."

The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Zoe Kravitz and Paul Dano, is due to be released in October 2021. This year, Pattinson's latest film, Christopher Nolan's Tenet, is slated to hit cinemas in July, though it has been speculated that coronavirus restrictions could push the release date back.
