Vox’s sold-out drive-in cinema will return to Mall of the Emirates from Wednesday.

Despite regular cinemas across Dubai reopening, Vox will be bringing back its popular drive-in option, allowing people to enjoy the latest films from the comfort of their own cars.

The drive-in screenings will take place at 7.30pm each evening, starting with Bad Boys for Life on Wednesday. On Thursday, war epic 1917 will be shown, Bloodshot will be screened on Friday, and on Saturday, Midway will play.

The drive-in cinema is making a comeback at Mall Of The Emirates, as the property and VOX Cinemas take the movie-going experience outdoors.

With social distancing measures keeping traditional theatres closed for the foreseeable future, a large screen has been assembled in the shopping centre's upper parking lot (level 3 near Ski Dubai) in front of which patrons will be able to take position, switch off their engines and settle in for some silver screen action all while observing sensible practices to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vox launched its drive-in cinema in early May as entertainment venues across Dubai remained closed due to coronavirus restrictions, and tickets quickly sold out. But, strict measures over the Eid weekend restricting movement outside after 8pm meant screenings had to be cancelled.

At Vox's regular cinemas across Dubai, some of the past year's biggest blockbusters will make a return to the big screen, including Joker, Jojo Rabbit, The Gentleman and Knives Out.

Inside, the chain has introduced a number of new measures to ensure films can be enjoyed in a safe manner. "Guests are reminded to maintain respectful of physical distancing at all times and we have implemented additional measures to ensure this is adhered to, such as installing instructional signage and deploying safety ambassadors to guide guests on the best physical distancing practices," a spokesperson for the chain told The National.

“The capacity in our auditoriums has been reduced and seats next to, in front of and beside your selection will be left vacant to maintain a safe distance between guests. We have also reduced occupancy in other public areas such as restrooms and elevators.”

Guests are encouraged to pre-book tickets online to encourage a queue-free experience, and all payment should be made using contactless methods where possible.

The full film schedule for the coming week is available on Vox's website.
