Trailer for Dubai documentary Awaken makes global debut
The trailer for a documentary produced out of Dubai that explores our relationship with technology and nature has made its global debut.
Awaken, which took over five years to shoot, features the world in a unique way by way of time-lapse footage, time-dilation, underwater, and aerial cinematography techniques.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, shared a teaser of the trailer on his Instagram account on Tuesday.
“One of the early driving forces of Awaken was to film the natural world in a way that could compete on a spectacle level with large visual-effects-heavy blockbusters, while at the same time capture everything ‘in camera’, with no effects, compositing, or post-production tricks of any kind,” says director Tom Lowe.
Lowe's company Dreamcore made Dubai - which features heavily in Awaken - their base and worked closely with Dubai Film.
“With this film we’ve created an immersive and unforgettable experience where the audience can explore the world in a whole new way," says Omar Alsalman, General Manager of Dubai Film. “As the region’s film hub, Dubai is the ideal place to produce a groundbreaking film like Awaken. It is the kind of city where you see a glimpse of the future - it’s fast-paced, dynamic and embraces technology. Dubai Film embodies this spirit and uses technology to push the frontiers of filmmaking.”
The Dubai Government's website, described boosted the appeal of the film, due for release in 2018 as "a film of epic scale".
"Awaken spans the globe bringing unseen sights and breathtaking perspectives to the human eye for the first time," it says.
The film is set to the song Outro by M83.
