They brought you the 2011 science-fiction comedy Paul, appeared together in zom-com Shaun of the Dead and became small-town policemen in Hot Fuzz. Now it's time for friends and collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to turn their sights to the thriller genre, as the pair are set to produce a new horror film called Svalta.
The news was revealed by production company Orion Pictures, which acquired the pitch from Stolen Picture, the company run by Pegg, Frost and Miles Ketley, which previously made horror-comedy Slaughterhouse Rulez.
Pegg and Frost will both act as producers, while Frost will reportedly also write the screenplay with Stolen Picture creative directors James Serafinowicz and Nat Saunders.
The story is said to follow a family while on their summer holidays to a remote Swedish island (called Svalta) where they find a serial killer is on the loose. But the locals aren't willing to help the stranded family of tourists.
"We are unbelievably excited to be partnering with Simon, Nick and Miles on Svalta," Orion Pictures president John Hegeman said in a statement to Deadline.
“The story is scary, awesome and crazy, and their unique voice is perfect for this movie. We can’t wait to bring this to the big screen with them.”
Ketley added: “Orion is the perfect home for the horrifying vision that Nick has conjured up from his maverick brain.”
It's been 20 years since Pegg and Frost formed their successful partnership, after they met on the set of UK sitcom Spaced in 1999.
The pair are also well known for their roles in fantasy-action film The World's End.
