Ryan Reynolds has just spent six weeks filming in Abu Dhabi, and it seems he’s been left with both fond memories and one of the worst haircuts of his life.

The actor was talking to Ellen Degeneres about his time in the UAE, and revealed he had almost a week off to just hang out in Abu Dhabi and that it was all going so well until he decided to walk into a strip mall to visit a barber.

Speaking to the talk show host, he said: “The last portion of the movie I’m wearing a hat the whole time so I decided to get a haircut, but I went to a barber in like a strip mall there, and you've done movies, you’re not supposed to actually cut your hair without being supervised [because of continuity], and it was just amazing. It looked like somebody had cut my hair with a loofah, like they just sort of rubbed it off, or maybe used a hammer.”

But he did say that he loved being in the UAE, haircut and all: “We were all over the world, but the Abu Dhabi portion was about six weeks and it was a lot of fun. It was interesting, it was cool to bring my kids to this entirely new culture,” Reynolds said.

“We got around and looked around and absorbed as much of the place as we could. Both our kids were there and we wanted them to see as much as possible. I liked it, I actually really quite liked it, I had a bit of time off and got to cruise around.”

He mentions that they celebrated Thanksgiving in the UAE and "absorbed as much of [the country] as they could".

When Ellen asked if there was not a mirror in front of him during the haircut, he said: “There was and at the time it was all happening in slow motion, I was like ‘I’m going to be fine, there’s no way it looks this bad, the mirror’s warped’. But no, it was really horrible. It was sort of fun, I liked having it for a minute. My daughter was upset.”

Reynolds was in the capital to film scenes for his latest movie 6 Underground - billed as an edgy thriller from the writers of Deadpool, it's set to be one of the most expensive films ever made by Netflix. The film is directed by Michael Bay, and also stars Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, Corey Hawkins, Adria Arjona, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Ben Hardy, Payman Maadi and Lior Raz.

Much of the Abu Dhabi shoot took place in the City of Lights on Reem Island, although scenes were also shot in other parts of the UAE including the Liwa desert, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.
