Razzies 2018: Transformers leads contenders among the year's worst films

The Razzies are an annual celebration of all that is bad in cinema, and the nominations have just been announced

Mark Wahlberg has the spurious honour of being nominated for two Razzies this year, including for his work in the latest Transformers film.

Awards season is upon us, and last night the nominations for the awards no one wants to win were announced. Yes, the contenders for the 38th Golden Raspberry Awards, or Razzies, are out. These are the annual awards for the worst films of the year, co-founded by industry veterans John JB Wilson and Mo Murphy in 1980.

The Razzies nominations always come out a day before the Oscars and the ceremony is also held on the day before the Academy Awards.

The nominees were announced via an online video titled How to Protect Humanity from Toxic Waste. The big “winner” on the night was the latest Transformers movie, which the announcement cheekily referred to as Transformers XVII: The Last Knight throughout, with a whopping eight raspberries blown its way, including the not-so-coveted Worst Picture, Worst Director for Michael Bay, and Worst Actor for Mark Wahlberg, who stormed this category with a second Worst Actor nomination for Daddy's Home 2 .

Fifty Shades Darker also put up a strong fight with seven nominations, while other big names in the running included Tom Cruise for The Mummy and Emma Watson for The Circle.
