It was announced earlier this month that The Misfits would be filmed largely in the UAE, and now film buffs have had their first peek at the set in Abu Dhabi.

The heist thriller, which is helmed by Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin, began shooting in the capital last week, with stars including Pierce Brosnan, Jamie Chung and Hermione Corfield jetting in for filming.

Former James Bond actor Brosnan offered a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced action flick, taking to his Instagram account to share snapshots.

"A guy called Richard Pace," the Mrs Doubtfire star captioned a portrait of himself in character, sat alone at a gloomy bar.

Brosnan plays the lead role in The Misfits, which follows the story of renowned criminal Pace, who finds himself caught up in an elaborate gold heist that promises to have far-reaching implications.

The film is set mostly in the Middle East, with shooting to take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as Los Angeles.

Brosnan also gave his 972,000 followers a peek at the cast on set, sharing a photograph with his castmates, taken around a sofa in a dimly lit warehouse.

"First week down," the actor wrote. "All on point, great crew, great cast, great fun. And our new Abu Dhabi family are looking after us all with such aloha ... inshallah." Brosnan posted alongside director Harlin and actor Mike Angelo, with Jamie Chung, Nick Cannon, Rami Jabar and Hermione Corfield also rounding out the group shot.

The Misfits will be produced by Kia Jam (Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For) and Dean Altit (Realms) and executive produced by Jaber (Realms), who also plays the role of "The Prince". Jam's Los Angeles film company K Jam Media is the lead production banner behind the project, with Robert Henny writing the script.

"After visiting and scouting Abu Dhabi, we were blown away," said Jam. "We all agreed in order to do the film justice, production would have to take place primarily on location in Abu Dhabi rather than LA, and we set up our base at the spectacular Jumeirah at Etihad Towers."

The film's release date is yet to be revealed, although Jaber did reveal the UAE shoot is set to last for 30 days.

“I can’t give too much away, particularly since we don’t have the distribution deal in place yet,” Jaber told The National last week. “But I will say that it’s about someone who has to steal something, but for a good reason, to protect someone they love.

“I suppose the closest comparison I could make is that it’s a kind of an Ocean’s 11-type thing. It’s definitely in that sort of area. You’ll have to wait to find out more."
