Actor Bill Murray and director Sofia Coppola are getting set to work together again for the first time since 2003's cult classic Lost in Translation.
They both received Oscar nods for their work in the Japan-set film, and Coppola was the first American woman to ever be nominated for Best Director because of it, and she won Best Original Screenplay, while Murray was nominated as best actor. So, fans and critics alike will have high expectations for 2020's New York-based On the Rocks.
Interestingly, the movie will be the first original by tech behemoth Apple, showing that the company is taking a page from Netflix's playbook by creating its own premium content.
Scarlett Johansson, whose career was launched by Lost in Translation, will not appear in the film, instead it will be comedic actress Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy) who will star alongside Murray in the movie.
Filming will start in New York in the next few months, and the movie is, according to IMDB, about a young mother (Jones) who reconnects with her playboy father after many years. We're predicting it will be funny in moments, sad in others, but overall quite heartwarming.
Coppola, who also helmed acclaimed 1999 film The Virgin Suicides, has directed five feature length films since Lost in Translation, but none of them have been as critically acclaimed or widely celebrated. Her latest movies include The Bling Ring and Beguiled.
Perhaps a return to the winning formula of Murray as errant father figure will be her next great film?
Coppola is part of a storied filmmaking family - with her grandfather Carmine a score composer, and her father, Francis Coppola the man behind the Godfather trilogy. Her mother is also a director, and was behind 2016's Diane Lane film Paris Can Wait. Sofia is also cousin to both Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman, while her aunty, Talia Shire, is an actress, best known as Adrian in the Rocky Balboa films.
