Ahead of the much-anticipated Avengers: Endgame hitting screens at the end of the month, Marvel has released a new clip that hints at the fate of some of our favourite superheroes.

The one-minute scene, which landed on the movie studio's YouTube account on Monday, features a host of characters that survived Infinity War, and also suggests what their game plan might be for overcoming Thanos.

At the end of the last Avengers installment, 50 per cent of the Earth's population was wiped out by the super-villain, with a number of the universe's beloved heroes turning to dust in the blink of the eye.

The antagonist, played by Josh Brolin, used the powerful Infinity Stones to wreak his havoc, and he appears to still be toying with the magical gems in Endgame.

"He used the stones again," says Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow in the new scene, which also features Don Cheadle's James Rhodes, Chris Evans as Captain America, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

Turn back time

"So let's get them," retorts Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), who'll be making her Avengers debut, after her origins-story film was released to great success in February. "And use them to bring everyone back."

Yes, the much-touted theory that the depleted band of heroes would try to use the Infinity Stones (one of which can bend time) to reverse Thanos's work appears to be the crux of Endgame.

"There's a small chance we can undo this; we owe it to everyone who's not in this room to try," offers Black Widow.

Fresh new hope

Banner, AKA Hulk, offers the valid counter-argument: "How do we know it's going to end any differently than it did before?"

But, as Captain Marvel rightly notes, "because before you didn't have me". Indeed, as seen in 2019's Captain Marvel, the Kree-warrior-slash-Air-Force-pilot holds incredible power, with superhuman strength, stamina and agility.

And she's also got nerves of steel, as proved when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) whizzes his new hammer right past her head, ruffling her hair. Captain Marvel, to her credit, doesn't even flinch.

"I like this one," the Asgardian king declares.

Marvel Studios confirmed last month that Endgame has a run time of 182 minutes. At just over three hours, this makes the final film of the Infinity Saga the longest yet, trumping Infinity War's two-hour, 40-minute run time.

Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas worldwide on April 26.
