Ms Marvel is set to become the first Muslim superhero to come to cinema screens, sometime after Captain Marvel releases in 2019, Marvel president Kevin Feige has revealed in an interview with the BBC.
"We're doing Captain Marvel right now, that's shooting now. Ms Marvel, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we've introduced Captain Marvel to the world," Feige said.

Ms Marvel, aka Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan, made her first appearance in Marvel comic books in an August 2013 edition of Captain Marvel, and landed her own series of comics in February 2014. She took on the former identity of her hero Carol Danvers, who dropped the Ms Marvel moniker in the Marvel comics when she took on the mantel of Captain Marvel in 2012. Ms Marvel was the comic giant's first Muslim lead character, and now looks set to repeat that achievement in cinemas.

Captain Marvel will see Academy Award winner Brie Larsen take on the role in Marvel's first female fronted movie, and looks set to follow on from the dramatic events at the close of the record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War, which is still in cinemas. That movie's post-credit scene saw Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury page the all powerful superhero, presumably somewhere in space, in the nick of time as he fell victim to the evil plans of the movie's villain Thanos.

Fans will be hoping that Captain Marvel can help out some of the characters who ended Infinity War in a bit of a bind. She is, after all, possibly the most powerful superhero in the Marvel comics, and has faced Thanos and lived to tell the tale on more than one occasion in the comics. Typically, though, we shouldn't expect Marvel to give too much away until the movie hits screens next year.
