A trailer for a Friends movie has been doing the rounds on the internet, and it's been watched by over 4.6 million people in the 12 days it's been on YouTube.
But, unfortunately for fans, it's fake.
The hoax trailer, dubbed The One With The Reunion, was uploaded by Smasher, a YouTube channel that specialises in "fan made/concept trailers".
The fan trailer sees the old friends reunite: Phoebe is a doctor and Rachel is a therapist, and still maintains a relationship with Monica. Monica and Chandler have a chance meeting when he prangs her car on a street and Joey, who remains single, has a chance meeting with Ross at a Middle Eastern-themed party. Ross, or so the trailer would have us think, expresses a love interest in Phoebe.
The fake trailer is spliced together using scenes from subsequent projects starring the famous sitcom's actors. Courtney Cox's sitcom Cougar Town had Jennifer Anniston and Mathew Perry as guest stars. Matt LeBlanc's follow-on show, Joey, featured David Schwimmer. Lisa Kudrow's sitcom Web Therapy guest starred David Schwimmer, while Mathew Perry and Jennifer Aniston collaborated on a skit for the Ellen show. All of these appearances were cleverly cut together to make up the fake movie trailer.
Friends film unlikely
Unfortunately for fans, a movie seems unlikely. Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman said last year that it will never happen. "There will never be a Friends reunion movie," she told E! News. "Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there's no need anymore."
This is not the first time a fake Friends movie trailer has gone viral. In 2015, a trailer along a similar vein was posted on YouTube and garnered 38 million views.
