You will soon be able to see some of Dubai's most famous landmarks on the big screen while sitting in one of the city's most recognisable venues.

This month, Dubai Opera will host screenings of Vanguard, Jackie Chan's latest action flick, which was partially shot in the UAE.

The spy thriller, which filmed scenes in Dubai in March 2019, was originally due to in January, but had its release date pushed back due to the pandemic.

The Stanley Tong-directed film, which also stars Yang Yang and Miya Muqi, tells the story of an international security company hired to protect a Chinese businessman and his daughter from a shadowy terrorist group. With scenes also shot in Paris, London, Taiwan, India and South Africa, it is Chan's ninth collaboration with the director.

Vanguard will hit cinemas across the UAE on Thursday, with the Dubai Opera screenings scheduled for Friday.

Held at 5pm and 9.30pm, the two showings will be hosted on the venue's large projector screen. Tickets, which can be purchased at dubaiopera.com, cost Dh70 for the film only, or from Dh125 with popcorn and a house drink included.

Limited seating and safety measures have been introduced at the venue due to the coronavirus pandemic, with guests required to wear face masks, undergo temperature checks, ensure social distancing and use contactless payment options.

Vanguard was shot in various locations around the emirate including Dubai Studio City, Downtown Dubai, City Walk and its surroundings.

During a break from filming last year, Chan talked about how he much he enjoyed coming back to the UAE to film another movie.

"I am happy to be back in Dubai three years after the shooting of Kung Fu Yoga. Dubai is a good place to film. This is why I have come back," the Rush Hour actor said. "I will come back again and again in the future."
