A straightforward cop revenge thriller is lifted up by a cast of old pros.

Officer Down
Director: Brian A Miller

Starring: Stephen Dorff, James Woods
**

Stephen Dorff stars as a policeman who must go rogue to uncover a mire of corruption behind a series of murders linked to a catastrophic event from his past.

Officer Down’s plot is a straightforward cop revenge thriller, and while this isn’t unbearable, certain artistic choices the director Brian A Miller takes (particularly the jarring jumps from black and white to colour) give the whole thing a TV-show feel.

This is uplifted by a cast of old pros, particularly James Woods who has charisma to spare. And while Dorff is a shaky lead, he has an endearing sincerity. Their respective times in the spotlight might be at an end, but these former A-listers deserve a better film to ply their trade in than this sloppy thriller-by-numbers.
