Ferragamo shoes as pendants, a watch with Arabic numerals and the Aston Martin DB11: what we’re loving this month

Legacy Machine No 1 MAD Dubai edition timepiece from

MB&F

Last month, the niche watchmaking brand MB&F gave its award-winning Legacy Machine No 1 timepiece a Middle Eastern spin, with the launch of the Legacy Machine No 1 MAD Dubai edition, which has Arabic numerals on its “home-time” sub dial. Part of a limited collection of just 13 pieces, the watch stands out for two more reasons – it is the first Legacy Machine available in grade 5 titanium, an aerospace-grade alloy known for its lightness, strength and resistance to corrosion, and it has a vivid green-CVD-treated movement main plate, a material that has only recently become usable. The 3-D horological movement with bridge design was developed by Swiss shaper Chronode, and its finishing was specified by independent Finnish watchmaker Kari Voutilainen. Other features include a black hand-stitched alligator strap and gold chatons. Available exclusively through the MB&F MAD Gallery in Dubai for Dh308,100, the watch is a symbol of friendship between

and one of its core retailers, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.

Miniature Preziose collection from Salvatore Ferragamo

The famed Italian designer was known for his handmade footwear – jewelled versions of which were unveiled in December 2012. The Miniature Preziose collection recreated Ferragamo shoes, including the Rainbow, Butterfly and Carmen models, as pendants. Last month, the collection saw a refresh in the form of five new pendants. Each miniature creation is engraved with the

label, and the shoe’s name and creation date. Some of the reinterpreted models include the Maharani, set with white diamonds, rubies, sapphires and tsavorites, an exact copy of the wedge created in 1938 for an Indian queen; Miss Vara, one of the maison’s most requested models, with white diamonds or pink sapphires; and Red, the shoe Ferragamo designed for Marilyn Monroe, presented in the Miniature Preziose collection in white or yellow gold with hand-set white diamonds or rubies. The pendants, with necklaces in white or yellow gold, are priced between Dh11,500 and Dh45,400.

Shoe trunk from Jimmy Choo

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Jimmy Choo has unveiled the Memento collection, put together by creative director Sandra Choi. Made up of 20 footwear and handbag designs, the capsule collection pays homage to the brand’s red-carpet-worthy accessories over the past two decades. The celebratory nod continues with a limited-edition, 20-drawer shoe trunk handcrafted from pale, embossed galuchat – a fancy leather traditionally used in Japanese swords and Qing dynasty bows. Contained within each of its suede-lined drawers is a pair of shoes from the Memento collection, which includes original designs as well as reinterpreted signature styles, such as the Lance and Anouk. The trunk is available from the

boutique at Mall of the Emirates, with a starting price of Dh195,000.

Aston Martin DB11

The first product to be launched under Aston Martin’s “Second Century” plan, the DB11 was unveiled at the 86th International Geneva International Motor Show in March. Dubbed the most powerful model in the illustrious company’s stable, the sports car is powered by a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine and 700Nm of torque, which takes it from 0 to 100kph in 3.9 seconds. Innovative aerodynamics in the form of a redesigned side-strake and virtual spoiler that reduces rear-end lift, plus a newly implemented autopark-assist feature and bird’s-eye-view camera, render the machine fast, efficient and safe all at once. Design-wise, the DB11 comes with a front-hinging clamshell bonnet, fluid roof strakes and boldly sculpted light panels. Interiors can be customised in terms of colours and materials, some of which include Nexus quilting, ornate leatherwork and intricate brogue detailing. First deliveries of the

DB11 will begin in the fourth quarter of 2016. The car is priced from Dh1 million.
