Fashion notes: Achieve a bright-eyed look with these tips

Contouring, strobing, false lashes and cheekbone highlight – these trends can all look beautiful on other people, but I simply don’t have the time or the drive to try them on myself.

When it comes to make-up, I tend to retreat to what’s familiar, what I know how to do and what I basically do every day: a light layer of foundation and a black winged cat-eye.

Anything beyond this, you could say, is outside of my comfort zone, and I have never been that bothered to try anything new.

Coloured eyeshadow, on the other hand, is a beauty trend that I would love to perfect – and the best thing is that it doesn’t look too difficult. It’s a great summer look – and a fitting one for Ramadan, when there are fancy events aplenty.

The key is to pick out a shade that’s sure to pop on your skin. Something vibrant; something bold. An electric blue, perhaps, or a vivid purple or radiant peach.

Pink and red eyeshadows have been popular among fashion bloggers lately. I’m personally keen on seeing how coral-pink and lilac look on me, though they may be better suited to lighter skin tones. If that’s the case, I will try an olive green.

The colourful-lid look is achieved best when the rest of the face is kept bare, with minimal make-up. A subtle touch of eyeliner and mascara will do; nothing too overpowering. Keep the focus on your chosen shadow hue and try not to blend multiple shades together.

At first, you may feel that the trend is “too young” for you or perhaps too simple. But that’s really the beauty of it. Dip your brush (or finger) into a vivid pigment, smear it along your eyelid and avoid applying any other bold make-up products. This could just become your go-to beauty look for the summer season.
