Exclusive: Kendall Jenner on her favourite UAE memory, her runway presence and living in the moment
Global soft drink giant Pepsi releases its latest campaign today, starring model and television personality Kendall Jenner. The short film, titled Jump in, is all about living in the moment. In our exclusive chat with Jenner, she talks about riding horses in the Abu Dhabi desert and staying away from her phone in order to live in the present.
What’s your favourite memory from a past visit to the UAE?
I’ve been in Abu Dhabi and I went to a friend’s house in the desert — I mean, I guess everything’s in the desert, but I went to a friend’s house, very remote, and we got on a bunch of ATVS and dirt bikes and stuff and went riding in the desert all day and it was the coolest thing. In the middle of the desert we met up with our friend who set up a tent there with horses, and we ended up riding horses in the middle of the desert. It was actually one of the best days ever. It was really awesome and really a dream come true.
When was this trip? How long were you in the UAE?
I was only there for the day, it wasn’t very long. This was right after New Year’s, two years ago.
When you’re walking down a runway, what’s running through your mind?
Honestly I kind of blackout, so I don’t even know.
What’s the most exciting thing about working in fashion?
All the creative minds you get to meet and all the cool people you’re surrounded with, there’s so much creativity around you, I think that’s the coolest part.
Do you have a favourite brand or designer at the moment?
Brands can change and their styles shift so I don’t have an all-time favourite, but right now I love Balenciaga, I love what they’re doing.
What about a favourite or go-to beauty brand, aside from your sister Kylie’s?
I love Estee Lauder, I work with Estee Lauder, and I love everything about it and all their stuff and it’s just a really awesome brand.
You’ve grown up in the media, with the paparazzi following your every footstep. How do you detach from all of that and keep your sanity, and a personal life?
It’s definitely something I strive for, I love just hanging out with my friends and zoning out, and going on vacations and keeping myself away from all of that as much as I can.
How do you personally try to live in the moment?
I don’t know, I just try to stay off of my phone as much as I can because I think that’s not really living in the moment and yeah, I just try to be present, and hang out with people I love and have a good time and take care of myself.
