The Emirati filmmaker Hassan Kiyany will soon discover whether his short film I See What You See has been shortlisted by a jury to appear on the website of the Tribeca Film Festival. The shortlist will be announced on April 26. Like all entrants, Kiyany used Twitter’s new video-recording app Vine, which was launched in January and allows users to record a six-second movie. He had to meet the competition’s criteria including choosing a specific genre plus telling a story with a defined beginning, middle and end. Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter, even tweeted about the film earlier this week. Check out Kiyany’s submission on www.hassankiyany.com or visit www.tribecafilm.com for more information. – The National staff

Salman Khan to produce Canadian comedy

Salman Khan’s Being Human Productions is co--producing the comedy Dr Cabbie, to be directed by the Canadian filmmaker Jean-François Pouliot. The film is about an immigrant Indian doctor in Canada who works as a cab driver and becomes a local hero when he converts his taxi into a mobile clinic. The movie stars Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), Adrianne Palicki (G?I Joe: Retaliation), Vinay Virmani (Breakaway) and Lillete Dubey (Monsoon Wedding). Khan said in a statement: “Dr Cabbie has an inherent universal appeal.” Poulliot said: “This is a timeless story which is heartwarming. It blends social issues and the journey to find one’s place in the world.” The film, co-funded by Telefilm Canada, is scheduled to release later this year. – IANS
