Elton John has postponed his Dubai concert citing ill health.

The piano man, who was due to play at Dubai’s Autism Rock Arena on December 15, has moved his show to January 20 at the same venue.

Following an examination by his doctor, the 69-year-old decided to push back the show after being diagnosed with flu.

“I am so looking forward to performing in Dubai with my band and want to assure my fans that giving me time to recover to my full strength and stamina will ensure the best and most memorable show on January 20th,” John said in an official statement. “Please accept my apologies and come enjoy the show next month.”

Tickets for the December show can be used for the new January date, stated Thomas Ovesen, chief executive of concert promoters 117Live.

"This was going to be our big end of season celebration but we of course want Elton John to be well and able to give us his amazing 2 hours plus live show," he said. "We will now instead look forward to celebrating the beginning of the New Year with him and his phenomenal live band". Ovesen advised fans to "hold on to their tickets and at the show we will have a special signed appreciation handed out to them for being so understanding – fans who were not able to attend the initial date can now get their January 20th tickets from all the usual ticket outlets.
