The actress Deepika Padukone says she is dismayed that many people believe some roles don't involve as much hard work as others. "It's a misconception that a glamorous role doesn't require acting talent," says the 26-year-old star. "At the end of the day, any kind of film requires good acting." Padukone is currently in Goa, filming the movie Chennai Express, directed by Rohit Shetty and co-starring Shah Rukh Khan. "I think as long as you are doing good work, that's the most important thing," she said. "Also, I am someone who has always believed in quality over quantity." * IANS
Balan's wedding speeds up Ghanchakkar shoot
The shooting schedule of the forthcoming romantic comedy film Ghanchakkar is said to have been planned around its lead actress Vidya Balan's real-life wedding. According to production sources, the 34-year-old star is planning to tie the knot at the end of this month with Siddharth Roy Kapur, the chief executive of Disney UTV studios and the movie's producer. After the wedding, Balan is reportedly planning to take a sabbatical before returning to work. Quizzed by reporters about it, the film's director Rajkumar Gupta replied: "The schedules were worked out well in advance, so that Vidya's work would be completed by the middle of December." The crime thriller Ghanchakkar co-stars Emraan Hashmi and is scheduled to be released next summer. * IANS
Subhash Ghai talks about new film Kaanchi
The filmmaker Subhash Ghai revealed that he is in talks with the actor Kartik Tiwari, the star of the hit 2011 comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama, to play the leading role in his forthcoming project Kaanchi. When it comes to the leading lady of his latest film, however, Ghai says that he is still searching. "I've auditioned as many as 400 girls," said the director. "I've met actresses who possess the talent level I'm looking for, but her looks don't fit the character. Similarly I've met girls who look the part, but are not skilled enough to take on the role. This leading lady will portray a unique and complex character in the film and that's why it's so important we select the best." Ghai says he plans to reveal more details on the project in the coming weeks. * IANS
Shukla working on script that is perfect for Sinha
The director Umesh Shukla, whose recent film OMG: Oh My God! was a box-office success, says he has been approached by producers to helm a family drama headlined by the actress Sonakshi Sinha. "But nothing is official right now and I haven't signed yet," said Shukla. "But I'm developing a script. It's a family drama." The 25-year-old Sinha made her Bollywood debut in 2010's Dabangg opposite Salman Khan. Earlier this year she appeared in Rowdy Rathore and Joker, both co-starring Akshay Kumar. Shukla says the actress will be a good fit for the script he has crafted so far. "It will be nice to work with her. We're very good friends and I share a very good relationship with her family." * IANS
Telugu producer on hiring newcomers
The Telugu producer Kumarbabu, who has a bevy of newcomers in his forthcoming film Telisi Teliyaka, says he believes in nurturing young actors. "Through this film, we intend to encourage new talent. Most small-budget films with newcomers may not be blockbusters, but they succeed because of the new cast, new director and novel subject," he says. "As a producer, I feel it's my responsibility - and not everybody can make a high-budget film with a superstar, can they?
