Come Dine With Me is coming to the UAE. The hugely popular television show, which originally screened in the UK in 2005 and has spawned spin-offs all over the world, sees four or five contestants pit their culinary and entertaining skills against each other as they take turns to cook and host a dinner party, quite often with hilarious results.

From the uber-competitive to the excessive to the downright odd - a contestant in Australia served a chocolate Freddo curry vol au vent; a UK hopeful thought it would be a good idea to bring her pet snake out; while another woman abandoned her kitchen (and guests) mid-meal and went to bed - long-term viewers have seen it all.

Incidents such as these don't seem to have put the UAE fans off, though. As soon as it was announced that there was to be a Come Dine With Me Dubai, their Facebook page received a flurry of likes and comments, with people expressing excitement, challenging each other to enter and speculating on their prospective menus.

The big question now is whether the sharp-tongued narrator Dave Lamb will be providing his usual sarcastic voice-over commentary.
