Fancy partying in Ras Al Khaimah? Yes, you heard right. RAK aims to put itself on UAE's party map with the launch of its Amasi Beach parties tomorrow. Daniel Radcliffe named wealthiest young British star
Daniel Radcliffe has been named Britain's richest star under the age of 30 for the second consecutive year. The 23-year-old's £53.3 million (Dh313m) fortune has landed him at the top of the list, which was compiled by the British magazine Heat. Rounding up the top five are Robert Pattinson, Keira Knightley, Emma Watson (Radcliffe's Harry Potter co-star) and the boy band One Direction. * IANS
Superman quits journalism
Clark Kent, Superman's alter-ego, is quitting the Daily Planet, the newspaper where he has worked since the comics were first published in the 1940s. The plot twist – prompted by the Daily Planet's takeover by a media conglomerate – is one of many to appear in the new edition of Superman that's just gone on sale in both digital and hard-copy forms. Kent hands in his notice in protest that hard news has given way to too many soft entertainment stories. DC Comics, the publisher, has hinted that Kent may instead become an internet -blogger. * AFP
Movie roles for Pitt-Jolie offspring
More and more of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's brood of children are following their famous parents into acting. In August, Walt Disney Studios confirmed that four-year-old Vivienne Jolie Pitt is to play the child version of Elle Fanning's Princess Aurora in the live action movie Maleficent. Now, two of the couple's other children, Pax, 8, and Zahara, 7, have also landed parts in the film. Maleficent, a retelling of the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, will be depicted from the perspective of the evil queen, to be played by Jolie. * The National staff
Depeche Mode announce world tour
Depeche Mode, the most successful electronic band in history, have revealed plans for a global concert tour next year, following the release of their 13th studio album. The British trio, whose last tour dates back to 2010, will set out on the road in May with 34 shows in 25 different countries. Depeche Mode have sold more than 100 million albums since forming in 1979. "We feel very fortunate that so many people are still interested in what we do, even before hearing it," said the lead singer Dave Gahan, 50. * AFP
Bennett: Latinos ‘sing with heart’
Tony Bennett was not familiar with most of the artists he recorded with for his new album, VIVA Duets. But to his delight, the American crooner discovered common ground while recording: "They sing with the heart." The album, out this week, includes collaborations with Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan and Marc Anthony, as well as Juan Luis Guerra and Thalia. "Many people say, 'How come you're not retiring?' I love life so much," said Bennett, 86. "My ambition is to actually attempt to learn more and get better as I get older." * AP
