Brad Pitt hails ‘heroic’ Jolie
Brad Pitt hailed his fiancée Angelina Jolie as “absolutely heroic” after the actress revealed that she has had a double mastectomy to reduce her risk of breast cancer. Pitt, 49, told The London Evening Standard newspaper: “Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic.” Pitt added: “All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.” Pitt and Jolie have three biological children and three adopted children. They became engaged in April 2012 but Jolie dispelled rumours last month that they had secretly married. – AFP
Bill Hader to exit Saturday Night Live
Bill Hader is leaving Saturday Night Live after an eight-year run. His spokesman confirmed that the comedian will depart SNL after this weekend’s season finale. Hader, 34, joined the NBC sketch-comedy show in 2005. He has since made his mark with a range of impersonations, including Al Pacino, Vincent Price, James Carville and Stefon, the Weekend Update correspondent. – AP
Beyoncé cancels show on doctor’s orders
Beyoncé cancelled her Tuesday concert in Belgium because of dehydration and exhaustion. Her publicist says Beyoncé has been advised by her doctors to rest, and that the Antwerp show would be rescheduled as soon as possible and “other tour dates are not expected to be affected”. The cancellation comes after the media speculated over the weekend that Beyoncé, 31, may be pregnant with her second child. The singer is currently on the European leg of her Mrs Carter Show World Tour, which kicked off last month in Belgrade, Serbia. It closes on August 5 in Brooklyn. – AP
Drake gets 12 nods from BET Awards
Drake leads this year’s BET Awards with 12 nominations. His fellow rappers Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz are up for eight awards each. Drake has been nominated three times for the top prize, Video of the Year. His hit, Started from the Bottom, will compete with his collaborations with 2 Chainz (No Lie) and A$AP Rocky (Problems). The top award has 10 nominees, including Justin Timberlake’s Suit & Tie, Kanye West’s Mercy, Miguel’s Adorn and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s Thrift Shop. Chris Brown and R Kelly will perform at the June 30 awards show, to be hosted by Chris Tucker. – AP
Aguilera in talks to return to The Voice
Christina Aguilera is in discussions to return as a judge on The Voice US next season, according to production sources. Aguilera, 32, went on hiatus from the programme this season to promote her latest album, Lotus, with a concert tour. The singer was a judge on the first three seasons of the programme. Aguilera and Cee Lo Green both left the show last year. They were replaced by Shakira and Usher, who joined the returning judges Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. On Tuesday, Shakira announced that she won’t be returning to the panel for the next season, which commences in September. The finale of the current season is set for June 18. – Reuters
