A night of fun and games will be held in Dubai this weekend to promote a forthcoming local magazine. Game On is co-organised by Emirates Diaries, an English magazine that will be established by Emiratis to increase awareness of the UAE's culture and history.
Game On is also setup by the online social club Think Up.
The event includes contests such as Spin It, a local take on the popular Wheel of Fortune game. Famous personalities attending the event include the popular Dubai MCs Omar Al Busaidy and Azza Al Mughairy, and the Emirati youth leader Hala Khazim.
"It will be lots of fun and a great atmosphere," says the magazine's co-founder Maryam Al Mansoori. The 18-year-old is a communications student at Zayed University, who, along with fellow student Mohammed Al Banna, plans to launch the quarterly towards the end of the year. "We will cover topics such as fashion, sports, health, history and finance," she says. "The event will raise awareness of our magazine, which we hope will come out soon." Game On is one of the many profile-raising events organised by the fledgling magazine. In May, it hosted a Dubai cultural event, with readings by the local poet Anwar Al Mushairy and the comedian Ali Al Sayed.
Game On will be held at Dubai's Al Meydan Hotel on Friday, from 7pm to 10pm. Entry is Dh200. Email tickets@thinkup.ae for more information.
