Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif was in the UAE last week to walk the runway for Splash at Mall of the Emirates.

She was wearing a black jumpsuit with floral embroidery from the label when we met to chat about fashion and her plans for 2017.

What does fashion mean to you?

aI think it should be accessible. It should be something that’s uniquely your own. It should complement your mood and your personality. It should be easy.

Do you feel pressured dressing for the red carpet?

This whole trend of dressing up for the red carpet and big events is something that happened in the past few years. Before, when I used to go to a premiere of one of my films, I would just pick a dress out of my closet.

I think it’s with the age of social media and the whole digital thing – Instagram – everybody has started this trend of high-fashion dressing for events.

Sometimes it’s fun – you get to play dress-up for a night – but the way it was before, when we used to put on anything and it wasn’t that important, that was also a nice way to be.

What are your plans for the rest of this year?

There will be a film of mine releasing in May called Jagga Jasoos, and then I will be starring in Ek Tha Tiger.

Some Bollywood actresses, most notably Priyanka Chopra, are shifting to Hollywood. Is this something you would consider?

You never know where your path can take you, I never say no to anything in life. You’ll never know until that moment comes.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want with you?

Oh God, that’s tricky. A nice person for company, good food, and maybe an item or two of clothing.
