Black Sabbath might rock Abu Dhabi

Black Sabbath are strongly tipped to perform in Abu Dhabi next year. Last week, the metal legends announced a swag of 2014 dates on their website, with a performance planned at du Arena for May 29. The Abu Dhabi date mysteriously disappeared from the website not long after. Flash Entertainment, the events company responsible for many of the concerts at du Arena, was not available for comment. Taylor Swift is Artist of the Year at AMA

Taylor Swift’s fans have voted her the American Music Awards Artist of the Year for the third time. Her win came after Katy Perry dazzled with her show-opening performance, Lady Gaga arrived on a fake horse, Rihanna appeared with her mother and Miley Cyrus closed performances with a giant lip-synching CGI kitty on her song Wrecking Ball. “I’m really out of breath,” Swift said after taking the stage in a sequinned minidress. “I was really going hard with the Wrecking Ball thing.” The 23-year-old pop star also won Favorite Album – Country for Red and Favorite Female Artist – Country and Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock. – AP

DeGeneres has big plans as second-time Oscars host

“It reached the world,” the talk-show host Ellen Degeneres said of her well-received 2007 Oscar gig. “And I’m trying to get world peace. So, that’s my goal. My hope is by hosting the Academy Awards, right afterward, we have world peace.” DeGeneres may have been exaggerating but there’s no overstating her enthusiasm for the March 2 show. “I know a lot of those people,” she said of the Oscar audience. “They’re on my show a lot. I love the whole business. I get to play with all those people in the audience and make people happy and, hopefully, relax them.” – AP

Mick Jagger to become great-grandfather

The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is going to become a great-grandfather early next year – his granddaughter Assisi is expecting her first child. Assisi, 21, is expecting a baby with her boyfriend Alex. She is the daughter of Jade, whom Jagger had with his former wife Bianca. Jade confirmed the news: “It is true. I am going to be a grandmother.” Assisi says her 70-year-old grandfather is happy after hearing the news. “He said, ‘Well done.’ I imagine it’s nice to be a great-grandad, although I’m not sure he likes the idea of getting old or being called one.” – IANS

Ronan Keating wishes he enjoyed Boyzone days more

The singer Ronan Keating says he wished he had more fun during the initial years of being part of Boyzone. The band were formed in 1993 and initially comprised Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and Stephen Gately, until Gately’s death in 2009. Keating says he realised he should have enjoyed his stint with the band after dining with the singer Niall Horan, who is part of One Direction. “One Direction came on The X Factor and Niall and I hung out a little bit and went out for dinner. He’s a great lad. They’re living the dream, but they’re working so hard,” said Keating. “I know what it’s like when you don’t get to appreciate what you’re doing. I wish we had enjoyed those first six years of Boyzone more, but One Direction look like they’re having a good time,” he added. – IANS
