Travel through time for a one-night only visit to Andy Warhol’s studio The Factory, which will embody the artistic spirit of 1970s New York, for the first in a series of Art History Time Machine parties at NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery.

Nights at The Factory usually included members of the artistic community of actors, musicians, artists and free-thinkers Warhol called “superstars” (he is said to have popularised the term), including David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Madonna and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Visitors will have the chance to imagine an Abu Dhabi version of the scene and create their own superstar character and have screen tests taken.

“This one-night event kicks off a series in which we reimagine historical art communities around the world, and reflect on the future of our own developing art communities here in Abu Dhabi,” says Maya Allison, founding Director of the Art Gallery at New York University Abu Dhabi, and Chief Curator at NYU Abu Dhabi. “The gallery’s public programme aims to bring the university into dialogue with local communities with engaging events that celebrate iconic moments of creativity and cultural development.”

New York-style hot dogs, pizza, popcorn and bananas will be available at the event and the artist and NYU Abu Dhabi instructor Jonny Farrow will provide the soundtrack.

• February 2, 6.30-9.30pm, Art Gallery, NYU Abu Dhabi Saadiyat Campus, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, register at nyuad-artgallery.org/en_US/events/2016/timemachinefactory/
