Get further into the Ramadan spirit next week with the upcoming exhibition Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (Ductac). Ramadanization builds on last year’s social media series which explored artists and designers’ personal and collective memories of Ramadan. This year’s exhibition features new commissions wherein artists reflect on their own significant memories and experiences of the holy month. Against increasing corporatisation of Ramadan, these personal and artistic re-interpretations highlight many common and shared experiences of the month by incorporating recognisable elements such as Ramadan TV series (Khalid Mezaina), iftar table (Fatima Albudoor), or being on one’s best behaviour (Safwan Subzwari).
Ramadanization runs at The Gallery of Light from June 13 – July 9.
